Proverbs 8 for 2017

To fully enjoy the brilliance of a morning sunrise or an evening sunset, you have to look – and then pause.

So, too, to the brilliance and love of God.
Proverbs 8:34-35 invites us to look, listen and pause.

Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.

With New Year’s Eve only a few days away, take some time to stand on the threshold.
Push pause. Inventory 2016.
What has God been up to this last year?
Push pause.
Listen.
Listen to the One who calls you to enter into this New Year courageous, expectant, and with eyes on him.
The promise?
For whoever finds me finds life . . .
New Year.
New Life!

First time here?

  1. Thank you for your faithfulness throughout the year. The encouraging words filled with hope and focus have been a real blessing. God has truly blessed you with His love and giving heart. I appreciate you so much. Mary Swanson

    • Mary.
Your kind words bless and encourage me.
May we leap into this new year — confident and courageous of God’s abiding work in us and through us as we work and rest with full abandon.

  2. Many years ago….more than I want to admit….I was deep into the Word and my prayers bore those scriptures in them. This past week I knew The Holy Spirit had something to reveal to me. I was crushed by the reminder that Jesus was born for me, He walked this earth in all is beauty and filth for me, He offered His back to be scourged for me, He opened His hands to receive the nails for me, He died for me. I knelt at the manger throne and received correction at the Father’s gentle hand. I still read scripture. I still pray, but somewhere, somehow, I became complacent. I knew the Word. The joy of opening my heart and mind in expectancy for the Spirit to speak just wasn’t there. Why am I weak and ill and joyless? It’s time to get busy. It’s time to study more, read more, fill my being with overflowing rivers of life….only from the Word. God is good. He is gentle and loving. Following Him is not easy in this fallen world. It’s time to rise up and become bold in my life. That’s not possible unless and until I re ew my hunger and thirst for His a Word. It starts today…..and every day there after.

    • Amen! God’s Word is alive with power and hope for us, all our cares and all those we love. May we sit, soak, saturate — and celebrate!
